Teeth Cleaning Appointments
Gum disease is a widespread problem affecting half of all US adults over the age of 30. It can exist without your knowledge, but all the while, it is damaging your oral health. Routine hygiene appointments are crucial because we can find and treat gum disease early on, and long before it threatens your oral health.
Routine cleaning appointments every six months are recommended if your oral health is good and you have no history of dental issues. If your dental history is more complex, our hygienists may suggest more frequent visits to maintain optimal oral health.

Dental Exams
Our Portland dentist recommends dental exams every six months because they help us to stay up-to-date with your oral health. During these appointments, we carefully check each tooth for signs of decay and look for evidence of gum disease.
We want you to feel fully informed and confident about the treatment we recommend, so we use technology like digital x-rays and intraoral cameras. They not only help us diagnose dental conditions, but they also let you see what we see and better understand the need for treatment.
If we find that you need treatment to get your oral health back up to par, we will work with you to develop an individualized plan to ensure that we meet all your needs.
Client Testimonials
Dr. Brown is a fabulous dentist. I have absolute confidence in her work and the recommendations she makes. She is calm and caring and listens to my concerns. Also, I adore her staff. They, too, are very caring and listen to my concerns. They are capable, friendly and fun! Wish I could give more stars!
Far and away the best dentist ever. Visiting Dr. Brown and her staff is more like hanging out with friends than going to a medical appointment. Staci at the front desk and Christina, the hygienist, I see often. I can’t thank them enough for the wonderful service the last 10 or so years. If you are looking for a new dentist, look no further!
I’ve been a patient of Dr. Browns for about 7-10 years now. I went a very long time without having dental Insurance during college and needed a decent amount of work and cleaning done. I highly recommend this team of professionals. Most people dread the dentist but I don’t mind going here at all, they are calm, fun, and make it a comfortable experience.

The type of cleaning you'll receive at your first appointment depends on your current oral health. If you've consistently kept up with routine exams and cleanings, you may only need a standard maintenance cleaning (prophylaxis), which we can often complete during your initial visit.
Typically, your first appointment will be with Dr. Brown, who takes time to discuss any concerns you might have. Your appointment is exclusively dedicated to your dental care, ensuring you receive personalized attention.
During this visit, Dr. Brown will conduct a comprehensive examination, including digital x-rays and periodontal probing to check for gum disease. This evaluation helps determine the appropriate cleaning needed.
If you experience symptoms like bleeding gums when brushing or gum inflammation, you may have gingivitis—the early stage of gum disease. In such cases, a simple cleaning to remove plaque and tartar may suffice.
For advanced periodontal disease, we might recommend scaling and root planing, or deep cleaning, which typically requires a separate, longer appointment.
If you're due for your routine cleaning or haven't visited in a while, contact MCB Dental today. We're eager to help you achieve and maintain your healthiest smile.
Your insurance card, medical history, and any relevant dental records.
The American Dental Association recommends dental exams and cleanings every six months, although your specific needs may vary.
Routine dental visits help your dentist detect and address issues like cavities or gum disease early—before they become more serious. If your oral health has been consistently good, twice-yearly visits are usually enough. However, if you've had previous dental problems or currently have gum disease, we may recommend more frequent appointments.
At MCB Dental, we use advanced technology, including digital x-rays and intraoral cameras, to help you clearly see and understand any dental issues. This allows you to actively participate in your oral health decisions.
If you’re due—or overdue—for your dental checkup and cleaning, please contact our Portland office to schedule an appointment.
